May Artist of Month

Bailey Byers

I worked with a Christian girls club at my studio. The theme was teaching about indigenous artist and their use of recyclables in their art forms.
I also taught them how to use a method of creating cuff bracelets with wall paper pressed together and hardened and also art cards with collage techniques. It was such a fun and creative group to work with in my studio. I enjoyed the girls and teaching them how to create one of a kind bracelets.

Bailey worked on an interpretation of Tree of Life by
Gustave Klimt.

She drew herself as the figure and practiced creating doodle designs which she used in her self portrait.
I enjoy teaching about artists and their work through hands-on creativity.

We talked about Symbolism and portraits. Bailey used a photo of one of her characters and different symbols on one side of the face as an example of Symbolism.

What we did in this project was a character painted on a black shirt. This was a method of creating wearable art.

This is drawing of a horse eye in graphite with an interpretation of it in monochromatic color scheme.

Bailey participated in an art show at the Campbell House and showed her Portrait and Symbolism.

This is a wonderful realistic graphite drawing of a hawk.
I think she really did wonderful work on her shading and textures!

Bailey created art dolls for one of the Autumn-fest in front of my studio one year.

I showed Bailey how to use a magazine to create collage . Afterwards she used a view finder to draw the photo
fragment in graphite pencil. This is a method in finding inspiration for her own abstract in future artwork.

Bailey was a part of the No Kill Animal Shelter. We had a fundraiser and raised money for the shelter. Each of the students did paintings of dogs and cats. It was such a creative and fun event at Flynn’s Coffee House. It was an amazing and sweet Joy of Art memory.

Bailey has taken her love of bracelets and rings and is creating her own Bracelets and Rings by Bailey jewelry business. I like to teach my students how to take something that they love and turn it into a creative business as well as turn their dream into a reality.

Bailey is continuing to work with me and evolving her skills through the years. I hope to work with her in many years to come. I am not only her teacher and supporter of her creative work as an artist but I support and nurture her as a person in her future life.
