Artist Spotlight: Capturing the Spirit of Paris in Acrylics
There is something timeless about the bridges of Paris, and this week, I am thrilled to showcase a stunning new acrylic painting by one of my talented students. Taking inspiration from a classic view of the Pont Marie, Colette has successfully translated a complex architectural scene into a vibrant, atmospheric work of art.

From Reference to Canvas
Working from a photographic reference, Colette didn’t just “copy” the image—she interpreted it. You can see how she used the thick, expressive texture of acrylics to give the bridge a sense of history and weight.
Key highlights of the piece include:
• Framing and Composition: By utilizing the dark, vertical lines of the trees in the foreground, she has created a “natural frame” that pulls the viewer’s eye directly toward the sunlit arches of the bridge.
• Water Reflections: The play of light on the Seine is handled beautifully, using a mix of deep blues and earthy greens to mirror the trees and the sky.
• Light & Shadow: Notice the warm, golden hues on the face of the bridge. It perfectly captures that “golden hour” glow that makes Paris so magical.
The Beauty of the Process
Acrylics can be a challenging medium due to their fast drying time, Collette used this to her advantage, layering colors to build up the rich textures seen in the stone and foliage. The result is a piece that feels both sturdy and serene.
